As the title, after introducing my civic type r ep3 to the both the central reservation and the hard shoulder barrier. Im now pre empting the call saying that the car is a total lose, if so i would still like to get another, however im debating whether to go for the same as what i had, or do i put the extra and get the fn2 gt version.

Can anyone who knows about the fn2 give me some pro's and con's over the ep3 please.

Cheers Carl.

Sorry to hear that Carl, must of been a terrifying experience!

Personally, I love the look of the fn2 version and the interior is much more modern with the sat nav (optional) and all the spaceship style driver environment.

In Red with the big wheel option, I think they look properly smart.

However, they have almost the same power/torque as the ep3 model, but with a whole host more weight so I'm not sure if they're as responsive.

That said, I have only driven an ep3 (which I loved) so I can't offer definite guidance. I suppose you'll just have to go for a spin in an fn2 before you make a decision.

Either way, best of luck.

Don't listen to anyone who says they aren't a good car. It's just a grown up version of an EP3, as in softer with more gadgets. The FN2 has 1bhp more from factory lol, but tbh in the real world you will struggle to tell their performance apart.

Engines are just as reliable, there's a few warranty issues such as rusty roofs and something to do with the gearbox but that's about it really. Go drive one, it won't feel as "raw" as the EP3 but it still has that fun factor.

Sorry to hear about your incident. Ive got an FN2 GT, with the rage wheels and the gp pack. Great car.

Exterior: Looks great, especially with the different bumpers.
Interior: Miles ahead of the EP3, comfy seats, relatively well built, only thing I don't like is the high driving position, but its not too dad.
Drive: Don't have an issue with power, I have a flashpro map, which brings my vtec in at 3.8k, and I reckon I have about 215-220bhp, plenty of power available. As with all Hondas you have to kick it to drive it properly. Handling is very good, eibach 30mm springs make a good upgrade. I get 28mpg, which I would assume is similar to your ep3.

Anything else you would like to know, let me know and il try and help you.

not sure if this is of any help, but i was looking at this type of Civic and was suprised at some of the owners reviews, i know not all of them are like this but it was an eye opener for me,............

HONDA CIVIC 2.0 i-VTEC Type R GT 3dr

I bought this 12 months ago after sending the first one back for numerous issues. It was 4 years old had 11k FHSH and came with the remainder of Honda Happiness

I am going to be honest here so bare with me.

Drive is brilliant if you are in the mood if you are not it is very harsh and uncomfortable I find the seat too high and for some reason type r seats sit higher than lower models .

Even though the ride is very uncomfortable the seats are ergonomically very good.

Fuel consumption is Ok and you should have no problems meeting the figures issued if driven carefully.

What ruins this car is the engineering deficiencies that become more apparent when you have owned it for a while.

I would recommend that anyone buying one of these join civinfo and read about he numerous faults I will list a few here.

Premature rear pad wear.

problems with hand brake subject to a recall

jumping out of certain gears (not a problem if the car is under honda warranty but as most arent this is a expensive issue

The next few are all related _

clutch master cylinder wear.

pedal box wear

clutch pedal allignment

clutch failure due to the above not being addressed.

By the way a clutch is 1.5k fitted

master cylinder 230

I have wrote these as my master cylinder failed at 19k!!!! If not rectified this will lead to a very expensive bill.

Now my favorite subject serving v's reliability!!!!!

My car has had six services in 19k miles so I hope you can see this has been pampered..

12 months ago all pads described as 50% wear all round this year and on the same pads 20% fronts and 95% worn on the rears .

According to Honda this is normal so for 4 years even wear and on year 5 the wear automatically shifts to the rears or as in my case its because the car is low mileage. Which makes a mockery of all the people who say buy low mileage with fsh . Well I did and now am paying the price. Honda hide behind the wear and tear bushel and refuse to shell out.

In summary doesnt drive very well has numerous design defects (check for these using civinfo)

Honda happiness I really dont think so Also remember the first one was sent back as it was worse.

Honda customer service forget it more excuses than arthur daly

was the previous model as bad, or have as many problems?

Thanks bidderman, my ep3 had only been owned by me since jan this year, it had a full mot with no advisories and only 68.000 on the clock, it drove fantastic and the seating position was low and great.

Once it hit the 70.000 mark i got a full service and valve clearances re-done as advised by honda, by a local honda specialist TDI north. The car has only got 73,300 on at present before the mishap. I cannot say a bad word about it, if i cant get it repaired, id try and get the premier edition, but thats not because i dont like the fn2, i really do like the look of them and the new modern styling.

But i only do 8 mile round trip to work daily, and the extra id have to pay from the ep3 to fn2 i may not be able to justify.
