Right I've just bought the best car ever, and there's a few little bits I'd like to tidy up. One of these is the gear knob. It's been scratched over time, and I'm wondering if this could be polished back, or if I've just got to live with it.

It seems to be solid metal and not coated with anything. Any ideas?

you should be able to polish the sides. start with 1500 grit until all the scratches are gone, then work up to 3000 then metal polish to a shine.

Regarding the top, is it engraved or etched?

if engraved then a light sanding with 3000 and polish with metal polish. it won't be perfect just depends how deep it's engraved.

if etched then i wouldn't touch it.
