I used the Scholl Concepts Orange Foam Polishing pad on the rotary with Meguiar's 105 compound. The pad tore near the edges. What could be the possible reason - too much pressure maybe?

The pad is very hard compared to any other pads from LC, Hex Logic etc and Scholl states it is a closed cell structure. I have read there is a learning curve for Scholl pads, what exactly does that mean?

A pad conditioner would help buddy.
Did u hold the pad completely flat as well
Yes, I held the pad completely flat but I had to use a lot of pressure on one particular spot. I think since the pad is very stiff, pressure is not required.

What size was the backing plate?
The BP is 5" while the pad is 5.5"

Did you catch an edge or piece of protruding bodywork?

Richard
I did polish the fuel tank lid. Could that be the reason?
