Hi, Yeah a lens hood is designed to block out glare and lens flare from the sun and other light sources. For a zoom lens generally a petal or flower shaped hood is used so that the field of view isn't blocked where as with a wide angle lens most use a normal circular hood or none at all.

I think you'll find the HB-34 is the one you want, assuming it's not the VR lens you have.

There really isn't much difference to be honest, you can search for a petal type if you know the front lens size.

got a lens hood with the lens which i wasnt expecting so its saved me a few quid thanks for your help guys cant wait to try out the new lens
