Just wondered what polishing / buffing machines and compounds/polish people recommend as im looking to purchase some and don't have a clue what to buy.

A bit of a "how long is a piece of string....?" question there tbh, as you don't say anything about your budget, amount of use it will get, experience etc. as these can all influence your options.
Most of the traders on here will have a range of machines/pads/polishes to suit all budgets so I'd start there. Things like polish choice is not a black and white thing as we all get on with different types/brands so it may benefit you to get samples of a few and try on a scrap panel until you can find one you can work well with.
