Karcher, is it the end of the K5c ? 😞

Noticed a new model in the Karcher range, the K5 Classic. Looks to be very similar to the K5 compact which as it stands, does not appear on their site (today anyway).

What's disappointing is they have fitted a universal motor rather than the induction. It reads similar specs and appears to be a similar price. It's a shame Karcher have taken the cost cutting route.

If you're on the lookout for a new washer and were considering a K5c, now might be the time if you can get a good price.

Here is the new model.

That's a shame as I've posted a few times that I reckon the K5 Compact is about the best performance to cost buy out there.

Sounds like more bean counters spoiling the engineering/reliability/life expectancy.

But since "everyone" is now conditioned to it being normal and acceptable for stuff to self destruct after a relatively short time, sadly it's no real surprise. :(.

@AndyN01

That sums it up Andy, not to mention the loss of the water cooled pump for the compact at least. Wonder if it will move up the range?

The working flow and pressure are less too, flow in particular, 450 down to 402 lph, that's quite some drop.

Like you say, it was the best machine bang for buck.

I'll answer on @AndyN01 's behalf ( should you want to buy fast, like now 😂) since I saw your question. A few years ago, you could get one on a good day for £159 after a discount and I think £25 off at Toolstation. Another time it was £174 or something. Lattery, the good price was around £190 to £199 if there was 20% off on eBay or even Karcher. They have gone up quite a lot as everything has. £268 will get you a good machine, better than the classic K5 which now seems to be the one discounted to £199.

It's up there price wise but you get a good water cooled motor, really good working bar and flow, a 3 year guarantee (worth something alone) and reliable backup. I'm not sure there is much about for that price beyond lesser known brands with less reliable backup, it depends on your attitude to risk 🙂

PS, since we both like the machine a lot, I sure you wouldn't mind Andy 😊

Thanks for the reply @shine247

You hit the nail on the head, it seems like one available around these parts full stop and whilst £268 I thought was a tad much unless I can get much better for spending a bit more then it sounds like im up at 8am to go collect 😂
They still have them at the outlet in the link above but you pay for only a 12m guarantee.
My K5c is on its 5th year,it's had shared use with other machines but it's been great, find a machine with 125 actual working bar in use and 450 lph for that price. I'd buy it myself with the 3 year guarantee. It's s a shame they are coming to an end and I think we know why.

Oh you wicked wicked people!! 😜

I was dithering on whether to get the Lidl Parkside PW that's currently on offer or hang fire to see if the K5c comes down.
I think my heart is ultimately set on the K5C but will most likely hang fire til the Easter weekend to see what offers will be available.

However, like @TerryCTR I'm getting excited and having trouble holding off!!

Hi all, Still dithering on the K5 Compact.

I've also seen K4 Power Control Home plus on the Karcher Website. I get blue light discount so is currently £243.
As i am a light user, i think the K4 Power Control will be fine for me.

I just wanted to check what people's thoughts? Am i right in saying the K4 Power Control has an induction motor?

Thanks

Richard

They were and could well be but they don't brag about induction on their site, so for anyone buying one, I would ask them. I see you have bought the K5c now. I was going to say that even as a light user, you are a user so I would want the best power during those times. I doubt you meant you will use it lightly 😂.

The one thing I noticed is they are now giving a 6 year guarantee on the k4 series (and 5 and 7) if bought from them and " registered" as they say. You look to be getting 5 on your k5c from elsewhere if registered so still pretty good. I hope the don't start being ultra picky as a result.

Still disappointed they have started to cost cut, I think getting in on a K5c now with 5 year guarantee is as good as you get for the money.
I can't see anything in the range I would buy now but I'm not bothered, I'm more than catered for.

I wonder if a few k5c's have been sold on the back of this thread. 😂

Hi

Entirely personal view....

I'd go for the K5 over any K4. The fundamental reason for using a pressure washer is for the pressure and the flow ;).

IMHO no amount of "extras" is going to overcome the difference/deficit in the pressure and flow.

Also, the easier and simpler something is to set up and use, the more likely it is to actually be used.

Keep it Simple :).

Obviously, your priorities may well be different.

Happy shopping.

In regards to the K4 and K5 (full size versions), I noted that although they don't brag about them being induction motors on the UK website, they still brag about them being water cooled motors. However, if you check the USA website, they also brag about them being induction motors as well. The only one that doesn't have it is the likes of the new K5 Classic, which doesn't seem to be advertised as water cooled or induction.

That's a good deal, same pump as K5. Posted a day ago and still not 🔥. The buyers on that site will send rubbish soaring if it's £50 but a good deal like that gets nowhere fast but some people will benefit.

Now we wait and see if they kill that model too.

Yes, hoses are available here.

Or if you want to change from the standard hose do what I did if the standard machine has the same outlet. You might not need any modifications.

I stopped and had a look at one at Homebase. It looks like the connection at the machine end is not ‘quick release’ style as per the K5 compact. So for my use/storage arrangement I think I will stick with the compact (as yet unboxed) Appears you need to release a locking clip to take the hose off on the full size machine.
