Another 205 owner here again any help/advice you want just ask.

I did a full resto on my 1988 1.9 Thread here.

Done WaxStock Top 16 for the last 2 years (voted in by the DW massive) but now decided to go back to using her properly....whilst still keeping her mint of course.

She has been in magazines, TV and on DVD doing her bes to show off.

Here are some photos from Brands Hatch on the 15th Nov :) 96 miles done on track driven there and home :)

Looks like you could do with a bigger ARB, mine is fitted with a 24mm rear 306 gti6 one and 309 21mm front one, flat in every corner.
Nope its not having anything that isn't standard...like its running the proper 185 section tyres too not the cheaper 195 section.

It is getting new shocks, lower arms, gear linkage, brakes, clutch cable over the winter. My instructor (ARDS & a Race driver) who was with me all day was actually very complimentary about the handling and he was surprised it was as nimble and good as it was he was expecting it to be a bit soft!!!

When you have a mint 205 you dont mess it about with putting non standard parts on it if you want it to hold its value...factory fresh even down to the single stage paint :)

ARB's are not really on show and makes a tremendous affect on the handling, well worth having. Trust me, fit a 24 mm rear ARB and you wont regret it, it transforms the grip and stability. My 306 arb had to be cut down and re splined or buy new ones for around ÂŁ150. If you don't fit original shocks then it won't be fully original and most people fit uprated shocks and springs etc, mine has the desired eibach springs and Gp N Bilstein rear shocks, again handles and grips great, and iv had about 5 of these cars.

I have had quite a few people comment how good she looks and cant believe she has had all the mods and reconditioned work done, I like my car to look original, which wipes the smiles of the people's faces when they cant catch up, road sleeper. My wheels weight 4.7 kg each compared to the 8kg speedlines which also helps with its nimbleness and speed etc.

Mine has quite a few rare parts that only came from the dealership inc headlamp/driving light protectors and original mud flaps etc, yes not a standard car but most of it is, standard cars are just not fast enough for me or even handle very well. I agree a good well set up 205 with all new original components make the car very nimble like a go kart but nothing like it is when you fit better shocks and ARB's, lowered 30mm and camber, which looks original.

As for values, the real values are in cars that have low original miles at the mo and every part original, otherwise they go for around the 2-3k mark. Mine has an agreed value of ÂŁ8500 and will never be sold, so I don't care much about values. Mine is for fun, car shows etc and very high powered with no turbo, all NA power with ITB's eventually. Mine was bought with it already converted anyways, so I just fitted a far better modern 40 thou mile VTS engine, she is very quick indeed, always puts a smile on my face.

Is your number plate original from dealers ?

I swear iv seen your car on tv somewhere, I recognise the number plate but cant remember where I had seen it.

Each to their own...I replace all worn parts with OE or as close to OE as I can get. No modifying on Pugly....that's why Peugeot UK love her as its completely stock and an perfect example, hence why they took her for 2 weeks down to Wales for the launch of the 208GTI

I even managed to track down the very last driver side window rubber in the entire dealer network...wasn't cheap but I wanted it to replace the original shrunken one.

As I am the second owner of this car it very special ok its not a 60k car but at 138k its got full dealer service history and a box file full of receipts from its past starts on the button and runs like new, it doesn't even dirty the oil :D

The car is originally an F plate but it came with the personal plate from the original owner (who passed away).

You might have seen it in AutoExpress magazine or the first episode of the last season of TopGear where it was in the studio or maybe on Clarksons Christmas DVD last year :)

For me a 205 isn't about all out speed its for the raw driving experience...if I wanted power I would get a E46 M3 or a Porsche 911.

For me its a purist thing standard is king....its not a dedicated track car so it doesn't need hard shocks or uprated ARB's I am rocking the original 80's hot hatch style and flair...still managed to pass 2 E46 M3's an S4 Audi and a 911 on the track day simply down to the speed I could exit the corners (even with my apparent sub standard original ARB's! :p)

Imagine how well she could do being flatter through the bends, those cars drivers were most likely just to scared to push their expensive car because a 911 would beat a standard 205 gti easy, however iv seen track set up 205's wipe the floor with high expensive cars.

I have recently fitted my 24mm ARB and the difference is night and day, iv driven my car with standard original suspension and with both OE ARB and then with the 24mm one and until you try the same you cant really comment about it. They are quite cheap and easy to fit and won't change the cars originality ie its looks, just changes the handling for the better, this inc the car to less likely to LOO.

Yeah that's it I remember it now the Top Gear episode, guess you are lucky because there are plenty of original 205 gti's out there, pity it hasn't got its original number plate.

At the end of the day no 205 gti will never be fully factory fresh because they don't make the same tyres they came out with anymore and 195's grip better. Guess concours cars are supposed to have every part the same as when car came out the factory and once one part hasn't then technically it isn't. That's why some do a modified concours show etc, which mine will enter once she is fully fresh.

I have a thing for originality, im just not totally mad on it and have fitted as much as I can apart from the chassis and engine work on this car, these parts have to live up to my hard driving that OE cars just didn't do it enough for me even though they do handle very well, iv had a few of them in the past. I have an 86D reg 5 door GT being restored to original as much as I can, it has the XY8 engine that didn't last long in the 205 range so is very rare.

Don't change a thing on that Nick, it's perfect! I'm with you on the originality front keep everything as standard as possible, don't whack parts on from different cars. It's one thing to have say aftermarket shocks designed for the 205, but it would be a shame to shoe horn bits off other cars on to such a good example.

I've been trying to look for a half original Renault 5 Turbo for ages but they all seem to have be *******ised with body kits and blue boost pipes.

Cheers Hazzar!

Don't worry matey she won't be getting any "*******ised" parts fitted.

It's not a dedicated track car so I don't have any need to make it a racer. With the planned new OE shocks it will tighten it up a bit.

I enjoy driving the car as it is and certainly won't be changing her or fitting the wrong 195 section tyres! ;)

No 205 gti will ever be original because they dont have the same tyres fitted anymore and subtle mods should not be classed as bast#rdised at all, leave that word for the max power crew. Well done mods not max power type are for proper drivers not granny sunday drivers lol :driver:

Im sure all you hating mods lot sound like you have never driven a well set up 205, if you had I know you would consider it, which is why so many do it. Mine looks just as standard as any other from the outside yet be quicker and take the bends far better.

The blue 205 with a 309 valance hasnt been fitted great and missing Lion lol but paintjob looks spot on.

Again unless a car has every part same as OE then it will never be original no matter how many tv shows a car goes into, it will be a fail once one part isnt OE in an OE conours point of view of it all.

Oh and nicks has sill to rear quarter at bottom of door all filled in smooth of which is a mod not OE.

For me a car is a personal thing and as long as a car isnt badly modded like max power etc then subtle mods are a good thing keeping car looking OE. Peugeot made a car with a tight budget in mind and was done by a few french people etc, since then Peugeot couldnt give a sh!t about the 205 which shows with all their NFP parts etc. One day there will be no parts left to buy of which is now, people will have no choice but buy modded parts, bet they will still go around saying its all original which makes me lol.

Not criticising your personal car mate, I just thought it would be a huge shame to start modding such an original concours example. As said, fair play a lot of older hot hatches get some modern suspension designed for the car which really improves things (we have come a LONG way in 20 years) but bodging parts of a different car onto an (almost) standard and original car would be a shame IMO. It would be like fitting disc brakes to a Brough Superior SS 100 because they stop better than the original drums.

ok, my mate has asked me to ask you guys who are into your 205`s to see if you can help with a problem he has come across.
Basically he is having a slight problem with the front edge of the sunroof, ie the trim piece that goes across the front on the outside. The problem is the piece he has dont line up, not sure if its the right piece for the car, or there is parts missing as this was in the boot of the car when he got it.

Any help or advise will be a big help.

many thanks
