Can you not pop the mesh out?

 

Prod the small grill gaps with a stiff brush after a slight mist of apc?

 

Unscrew the grill and clean up if you can - otherwise apply steam cleaner with the hose wrapped in microfibre cloth and wipe off with another cloth.

I think, not actually touched a CLC before though, that the way the grilles are clipped into the door card and you might have to remove that and pop it out from the back.

Tedious, but I agree that ****tail sticks/cotton buds are the way forward unless you're up for taking them out.

I would rather not remove the grill, from past experience I will end up damaging something.

Wouldn't steam compromise the speakers paper cone?

 

Would if he totally saturated it but, to an extent, they're a little bit weatherproof and withstand small amounts of condensation/run off into the doors in everyday life.

I'd say a microfibre cloth or similar soaked in apc and just hold it against the grille to soften/loosen the dirt. Rub off what you can then get the rest with a nailbrush or buds/toothpicks

 

Same kind of grills as my C Class, i used a really soft bristled brush and some APC

A light most of All purpose cleaner and use an compressor to blow across the speaker casing, not into it as you will damage the speaker cone. I do it everyday to cars, and neve had dramas.
