Left my 2 month old Karcher in garage last winter .....took it out to wash car once the weather improved and water spewing everywhere from under it.....it was a pipe that had frost damage, not the pump.

Was gonna be £32 an hour for specialist to fix....I took apart myself , found the probem , ordered it and replaced it myself £9.95...its in the house this time:lol:

 

I love my Nilfisk but last winter, despite leaving it in the garage it still froze, so got a new one this year. Solution - educate your wife, if it gets as cold as last winter then big chance something will go on it (or any PW).....

Mine will get tucked in the dining room probably.... :thumb:

Did you wrap yours up in anything?

 

Get on freecycle or Ebay and grab some old duvets, and a crate of some description?

 

kinda doing that with wooden box/stool its sat on and wrapped in an old outdoor jacket.

 

I have a Karcher i bought it cheap of ebay re con for about £35 i have had it about 4 years now used at least twice a week gets abused and is still going strong sits out in the cold shed too

 

I have made a crate out of 2" polystyrene that my PW sits in.Been ok so far, also I use a draft excluder on the garage doors...

 

Just put a little paraffin heater in the garage. If its going to freeze just put it on low.

Been doing it for years after the LCD displays on my hifi in the garage broke when it froze. Never had any problems. Makes it quite warm in the garage as well. Surprising how well it heats.

Don't they create/give off moisture in addition to the heat?

 

can't do much more than your doing mate,unless you go with the wife unfriendly option

 

use it, disconnect cables, tip up or over shake out as much water as you can even leave tipped over while you pack everything up.

Then put in the house.

 

them parafin heaters will soak everything with moisture

i keep mine under some carpets , hasnt damaged it in a few years use

 

^^ That's what I suspected, thanks for confirming it and saving me a bit of cash too.

May resort to lining the cabinet with polystyrene to see if that helps.

 

I tend to not treat my karcher as if it's one of the family.

It'll be left in the heated garage next to the radiator like it has been for the past 7 years.

another tip is buy an insulted jacket for copper water heaters from screwfix etc

Mine gets drained and then stuck in the corner of the dining room behind the cross trainer. Wifey never uses the cross trainer so doesn't notice it / bother her.

In my instructions, it recommends putting some antifreeze through it before storing over winter!

 

Usually fill mine with screen wash. then give it a thorough rinse out when I next come to use it. Never had a problem with it freezing or blowing pipes and its stored in the shed over winter..

 

Have also noticed that karcher do an anti freeze kit for certain models.
Might be worth a look at their site....

 

managed to find a spot in the understair cupboard. nilfisk is slim so not taking up much room as it has a small footprint so to speak. No doubt my previous outdoor method would have sufficed but decided not to take any chances. the other half was suprisingly calm when she saw it:thumb:
