I'm not planning on lifting any HGV's or No.9 Buses so about 2.5 tonne will do. Before I commit to one I've seen I'm wondering if theres a deal out there I've missed...
Any recommendations guys ?

Would help to know which one you’ve seen and what kind of budget you have. I needed a lower profile jack than the one I had and looked at a few but as much as it pains me to say, Halfords were again the best value. Think I got the 3 tonne one and it’ll outlast me, lifts both ends of my car effortlessly at the same time much higher than my previous so doddle to slide the stands in. It is a beast though so not easy to store out of the way and it weighs 34kg,

Another vote here for SGS . I bought my jack and axle stands from them lasted me years and still going strong. You can generally get a package deal as well.

Mine is a 3 tonne IIRC but is heavy but i knew that when i bought it and its only for my garage so it suits my purpose.

Is the Arcan not the one Costco does forabout 150 I certainly wouldn't be spending 600 odd for a jack.

EDIT: Just had a look you can get a 3 tonne low profile jack plus 2 axle stands for ÂŁ139.98 at SGS.

I ordered exactly that package which arrived yesterday and I've got to say that I'm very impressed with the quality of finish and the weight - good God, the weight !
I had a twin-ram 'rocket lift' jack 10 years ago but this seems streets ahead in terms of heft and build quality. 508mm lift height too.
Superb value as it included next day carriage....
Now I just need to organise a neat way to store it....and to resist buying too much more kit from their extensive range !

I also went for the Halfords Advance Low Profile a couple of years back after pondering over many different Jacks. I went for the 3t. It is big though, proper sized jack like you find down your local garage. Quick raise foot pedal on the rear to raise it to your car and then just a few pumps of the arm and your car is in the air. The 2t is ÂŁ30 cheaper.

I had reall trouble with the SGS lift so much so I returned it and went for the Halfords advanced 3 tone lift

If you compare this side by side to the SGS one the halfords one is better quality, nicer welds, thicker metal etc smoother wheels

For stands I use Draper Ratcheting Axle Stands

I would also like to remind people on the importance of using the correct gear to lift a car.
When I was 11 my neighbor across the road was crushed and killed when his 2 tone jack gave way, he was using it to lift a limo that was heavier than 2tone and no stands.

I allways chock both sides of the wheel for example im if lifting the back, chock both sides of both front wheels.
I shake the car well and give it a good push to make sure it doesnt fall of the stands.

Please be carefull

I've had halfords and SGS and I much prefer the SGS I personally think they're better quality so it can be down to personal choice or indeed what model you buy 👍🏼

My SGS jack has been used in the restoration of the Maestro so has been well used over the years (and still is as its off the road again lol) and I've never had any bother with it.

As with anything some people can have a great experience with a product or company yet others can have a poor one at times there's no rhyme or reason.

I do like the SGS stands as they have a locking pin rather than some that are ratchet style and I don't trust having almost had a near miss before but again that's personal choice.

Hopefully OP you enjoy yours and have years of trouble free use 👍🏼
