I found the conti sports very, very noisy. The cabin of the swift is not the quietest at the best of times and those tyres certainly do not help.

I moved to F1’s as they we OE fit on the previous model, the RS416. They’re alright really, though very soft and I was only getting around 8K out of them.

Now on to the S-drives. Much quieter than the other two. And I feel much better in the wet, which it is more often than not. I cant comment on longevity just yet, but I did see a 2mpg increase over the contis.

When changing the battery this week, I noticed that the tray and clamps were showing signs of wear and weathering. With the weather not allowing for much in the way of cleaning i got to it.

Some of the bolts were too far gone but luckily I had some kicking about in my spares.

I rubbed back the flaking paint, cleaned off, gave a coat of primer and Matt black on all parts that needed it.

The battery bolts to the gearbox mount and this wasn't looking it best either. Honestly, it's a bit out of my realms to be taking the box mount off. I rubbed it back in situ and coated it with some silver hammer it's I had left from doing my callipers. You don't see an awe full lot of it when the battery is back in place but it'll give it some protection at least.

Apologies in advance for the poor photos, the lights in the garage need upgrading.

Unfortunately, I had a slight altercation which has resulted in a new O/S wing mirror.

Being colour coded, heated and motorised it didn't come in cheap at ÂŁ300, but there we are.

Thankfully all back to normal now.

As the weather has been getting colder, the heated seats have been on full time.

I've noticed an intermittent problem where they wouldn't alway come on right away.

I took apart the centre console where all the wiring is located. Seems as if there was a bit of a loose connection as one of the 12v wires was pulled a bit taught. I've re arranged the layout and we seem to be all good.

Because I didn't document the cars progress early on, I've never taken any images of the seat install so took the opportunity to show you if you're interested.

For obvious reasons I'm unable to now show the heat pads but here's the just of the set up.

UK market vehicles did not come equip with heated seats unlike the JDM and EDM markets, instead were two blanking plates.

My good friend Karl over at www.vivavitara.co.uk sourced be two OEM seat switches which I believe are from a German vehicle.

Image

They sit lovely in the centre console next to the hand brake.

Image

The power comes direct from the 12v power supply already installed in the car.
This enables the system to be fused twice, through the standard 12v fuse and a fuse on each wire fielding the switch.

The white plug at the top of the picture is the 12V supply, the blue and red and the heated seat supply

Image

Image

Along with this, there are two relays which have been suspended rather neatly on the unused bracket, which I can only assume Suzuki put there to make life easier for me.

Image

Image

The power cables then run under the centre console past the gear lever and hand brake, under the carpet and follow the line of the airbag wiring to keep everything neatly together and OEM looking.

No extra holes or cuts in the carpet which was something i wanted to avoid

Image

Image

Here the wires can be seen under the seat, the looping cable is for the back heat pad, and was given enough slack for seat adjustments.

Image

And there we have it. None of it possible without my good mate, Karl.

Another small update,

I've acquired a set of new OE top mount protection covers for the latest Swift Sport, A2L.

There are already covers for the bolt and thread as standard but nothing for the actual top mount. It's more of a why not change really to give the mounts a bit of a better chance.

From factory

All quiet with the car recently, until it developed a very slight misfire between 1.5k-2k revs.

When I say slight, its hardly noticeable but it is there, I Decided to check it over all the same.

Firstly I noticed that the throttle body bend bend is starting to perish around the clamp, it hasn't broken all the way through, but seems to be on its way.

Image

I have spoken with Samco who do a throttle body replacement 2 hose kit for ÂŁ135.

And I'm waiting for a price back from Suzuki currently.

Investigation continues...

I then checked the air filter housing. All clean and filter is all in order.

Image

Moving on to the plugs. Currently fitted are the OE NGK R Iridium plugs. I replaced these about 15k miles ago and they have a service interval of 36K. On removal there was some burning on the ceramic

Image

Image

As a result, they were changed, again with the OE Suzuki plugs.

Image

For good measure and the possibility of having some poor fuel in the car I put in a double shot of Redex to help things on its way. I'm not really a user of Redex but it came recommended by a friend.

Image

So far so good, but I'll get a few more miles on the car to see its its been cured.

Thanks all, I’m glad you’re enjoying the read.

Also, with regards to the Yokohama S-Drives and the fact I’ve now done a few miles on them i can report that, although a higher DB rating (at 73) than the Conti Sport Contacts and GY Eagle F1’s, The S-Drives appear to be much quieter. Grip feels great especially in the wet and it’s lovely to have x4 matching tyre again.

195/45/17 is a bit of an odd tyre size, so choices are limited when it comes to tyres (I’m not prepared to alter the size) but I think I’ll most definitely be going on with S-Drives when this set runs through.
