Own a Rupes LHR III - absolutely love it. The only problem is that head too large for intricate or high contour areas. So as we all know ;) I need to buy another machine for the smaller areas. For various reasons it has to be a DeWalt machine.

Whilst I am not convinced over cordless eg weight distribution, recognise that if the forum users say that good machine - then who am I to argue. So, any recommendations please solely wrt this brand appreciated , even if corded version.

Dewalt only make two cordless polishers, the DCM849 is a rotary and the DCM848 is a 125mm dual action. There are no smaller backing plates available for the 848. Size wise it’s big and heavy (2.9kg with 5.0ah battery) but nicely balanced, it also has plenty of power but will eat through batteries. It does have its uses and is fine as a standalone machine if you have the batteries to keep it running, but if you want a smaller format polisher you will need to look elsewhere.

Just picked up the Dewalt DA for a steal in an eBay bundle and its heavy but very well balanced and smooth as mentioned above, this is my first 15mm DA so slightly annoying I still need to keep my old 8mm around for the 3" pads.

Im also on the Milwaukee platform for everything else so will be relying on battery adapters apart from 1 4.0ah Dewalt battery I have

I don't think the DCM848 would be ideal even if you could source a 3" backing plate if that is what your looking for, it's too bulky. You'd be better off with a cordless Shinemate or similar. I've got a DCM848 and a Flex PXE 80 I got for a good price and between these two most bases are covered.

I've had mine a few years and love it, the batteries will give up the ghost before the machine they really are built to last. If it did packup and was beyond repair I would buy another without any doubt, for anyone with any Dewalt batteries already it's a now brainer, I'd even consider the cordless rotary but I've got too many polishers already.
